I'm new the Flash and what I want to do is to fadeout an image (a jpeg) into another of the same size. Someone in another area said it needed to be tweened? I can move the thing around (motion tween) but no fade.
Do both images belong on the same layer?
Maybe I'm not selecting it properly.
This should be easy but I just can't figure it out!
Thanks

Hello,

You should first make a symbol of your image.
This is done by selecting it, then hit F8, select graphic and give it a name. A blue line should appear around the image

In the same layer select the frame where you want the fade-in to stop. Hit F6 to create a keyframe. Your image should automaticly be copied to this keyframe so a black dot will appear in the created keyframe.

select the first keyframe in the timeline, then click your image. If you're using flash mx, a dropdownmenu should appear in your propertiesinspector with color as the default selection.
Select alpha in this dropdownmenu and drag the slider all the way down (value=0)

rightclick the first keyframe in your timeline and select "create motiontween"

That should do the trick.

sorry, didn't read your entire question.

If you want to fade to another picture, you should put the new picture in the layer above the other picture and then repeat the steps from above. Only in this layer you must set the alpha value to 0 in the last keyframe.

So in fact one picture fades in while at the same time the other fades out.

Thanks Goag for that step-by-step instruction.

I'd forgotten about turning the images into symbols. I remember that from a book. Your instructions helped me achieve a fade-in although I'm still struggling with getting a fade-out. Having trouble setting a value at the end (as opposed to the beginning) but I'll keep trying.
