Hello all,

this is a wierd one. It must be because there is nothing on it on the web.

prtdiag -v says, at the Environmental Status bit, "picl_initialize failed".

picld is not running, but is there at /usr/lib/picl/picld and all necessary libraries are also there (I have compared them with other functioning machines).

I have tried starting picld both at the command line and with "/etc/init.d/picld start" and get the following in /var/adm/messages...

Aug 22 09:20:19 portal2 picld[24835]: [ID 310084 daemon.error] psvc_plugin_init: Can't determine class of PSO
Aug 22 09:20:19 portal2 picld[24836]: [ID 995911 daemon.crit] Received signal: Segmentation Fault

Aug 22 09:20:19 portal2 picld[24836]: [ID 310084 daemon.error] psvc_plugin_init: Can't determine class of PSO

Aug 22 09:20:19 portal2 picld[24837]: [ID 310084 daemon.error] psvc_plugin_init: Can't determine class of PSO
Aug 22 09:20:19 portal2 picld[24837]: [ID 764756 daemon.crit] Aborting - cannot recover from errors

pkginfo -L shows "completely installed" for all relevant SUNW packages.

I am at a loss, I have trawled the net for all relevant failure messages and got nix. Does anyone know anything about whether there are any patches that fix this problem, or has someone got another explanation?

Thank you in advance.

Toby

To resolve, first verify that the picld packages are installed on the system:

# pkginfo -l | grep picl
PKGINST: SUNWpiclr
PKGINST: SUNWpiclu
DESC: PICL Daemon, Libraries, prtpicl client and plug-in modules
PKGINST: SUNWpiclx
If the SUNWpiclr, SUNWpiclu, and SUNWpiclx packages are installed, restart the picld daemon to resolve the problem.

# /etc/init.d/picld stop
# /etc/init.d/picld start
If the packages are not installed, then install the packages from the Solaris CD. It is important to use the packages that came with your version of Solaris. To find out what version you have type:

# more /etc/release
After you install the packages, start the picld daemon.

# /etc/init.d/picld start
If neither of these solutions resolve the problem, remove the picld packages and re-install them using pkgrm and pkgadd.

regards ph
