PartnerMail VS V.5 to an ACS processor.

Answer delay is immediate so the client hears the standard half ring and then the VM grabs the line and starts playing the greeting. (Client wants to hear the ring - I know that it can be turned off)

Long story short - the client has taken to picking up the phone on the first ring. If the VM has already grabbed the line, the caller hears the VM say "Goodbye" as it disconnects. Of course, this is confusing to the caller.

The client would like this option turned off.

Is there a way to do this?

No, that's normal behavior for Avaya voice mails. Why not delay it for 1 or 2 rings, if they
feel compelled to answer, they have a chance.
