Hello,

I am a complete newbie with Cognos. My task at hand is to generate a question by question report based on a bunch of responses we received for a questionaire. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction as to how I approach this task. Are there any best practices related to this kind of scenario?

Thanks!

Im a newbie too !
First I would advise you to post the full info of what report you are going to make ? Is it an Impromptu report or ReportNet?

what cognos version are you using?

Hi,

I have a questionaire of about 300 questions. We had about 100 respondents to these questions. I have to generate a question by question report, which means I would have 300 reports to be generated. These are to be in pdf.

For eg: One question is the region the respondent comes from - N, S, E, W. Now, I would think a good way to represent this is a pie chart.

That was simple. But what should be done in the case of free text answers? Or, there are way too many choices for an answer to represent in a pie chart?

Do we have any references we can use that serve as guidelines to determine the optimum representation?

I have to use ReportNet 1.1.

Thanks!

Well . firstly I use impromptu and have never used report net.
But here's what I think about your idea.

Like you say , 300 different answers cannot be put in a pie chart and even if they could be , there would be no point in doing so . You could simple do a select distinct and get all the 300 different answers output in excel
then simple concert it to pdf if you really want PDF.

Basically all you can do with the 300 different answers is a listing of all of them.
