Picking back up on a path

Hello, for some reason while I am creating a path with the pen tool, and then I decide to jump somewhere and do something else real quick, when I come back to the path, and try to continue, the path keeps disappearing. I know it is something stupid I am doing or not doing, but I can't seem to figure it out.

Do you have a stroke or fill colour applied to the path?

I do have a stroke color. I did find that if I click on the last anchor point, that it seems to pick back up again.

Are you using the pen tool (with the fountain pen icon) or the pencil tool (with the pencil icon)? The pen tool will let go if you do something else, and you'll have to pick it back up at an end point.
