How can you get Crystal to return only the first entry in a field? I am writing a report in Crystal version 7 using data from BusinessWorks. Where we have a secondary (or third) vendor entered on BW, Crystal is duplicating the part on the report and picking up the second and third vendor.

The table is named IC_Parts-Vendors, the field is called VENDOR_ID, and I have it linked by the PART_ID field to the table which holds the invoice detail. I am guessing the VENDOR_ID field holds all three vendors for each part.

Thanks!

I'm unfamiliar with the Businessworks model, but you can group by the part number, and then within that group by vendor and place the vendor name in the group header and Crystal will display only the first vendor.

It may be that you can accomplish this by using altering your joins (if you have a LO, change it to an = and have a look), but the above will cheat it.

These would probably be 3 matching records, not three entries in a single field. Does the system know which vendor is primary? If so, you may be able to identify the primarey vendor by adding criteria using another field. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting
