Not sure if this is the right forum but am hoping somebody can help. My brother downloaded the free Picassa software for photo-editing. He uses it to make screensavers but apparently it creates a duplicate of all your files. When my brother realised he had duplicates he decided to delete the duplicates and empty the recycle bin. He then found it had also deleted 6 or 7 original pictures.
He tried to restore to a restore point made 4 days ago, but it still hasn't brought them back.
Any ideas anybody> He's devastated as they were pics taken from his camera.
Cheers, as always

AFAIK Picasa doesn't duplicate picutures - it's a Google deritative so it indexes, and creates thumbnails.

"Like a playlist, you can create combinations of any pictures in an album or use a single image in multiple albums without taking up extra space on your hard drive. If you delete pictures in albums, or whole albums, the original picture files will be untouched."

System Restore is not backup. It only monitors a few file types, does not monitor a user profile or data files, and does not monitor the Recycle Bin.

[/u]It restores:[/u]

Filetypes:
Registry (note: some current values will persist)
Profiles (local only—roaming user profiles not impacted by restore)
COM+ DB
WFP.dll cache
WMI DB
IIS Metabase
Files with extensions listed in the Monitored File Extensions list

Not Restored

DRM settings
SAM hives (does not restore passwords)
WPA settings (Windows authentication information is not restored)
Contents of the My Documents folder(s)
Specific directories/files listed in the Monitored File Extensions list
Any file with an extension not listed in the Monitored File Extensions list
Items listed in both Filesnottobackup and KeysnottoRestore (hklm->system->controlset001->control->backuprestore->filesnottobackup and keysnottorestore)
User-created data stored in the user profile
Contents of redirected folders
Contents of Recycle Bin

Your best bet is an unerase utility. If you do not have one, try PC Inspector, freeware,
