If you have little experience with PShop you may want to try the "Lasso" tool to make a path around the outside edge of the car (see the help lasso), then click selection > inverse > and hit the delete key (leaving the car only).

The key here is to start off by using the magnify tool to "blow up" the car to a larger size then choose the lasso tool and while holding down the alt key click around the edge.

I don't normally use this method I prefer the bezier tools but they take a bit more practice.

There are many other ways but I believe the lasso is a good way to begin.

Another method (in photoshop there are at least 3 ways to do everything) would be to use the "Edit in Quick Mask Mode".

That is the little square with a circle inside icon atthe bottom of the tool bar. Click that, and as mscallisto says, make sure you are zoomed in. Use the paintbrush to paint the vehicle witht he red mask. I generally outline the enttire graphic using a smaller brush, then use larger brushes to color in until the whole is filled.

When you have the image entirely painted in with the red mask (selected) then you click the other square box with circle tot heleft (edit in standard mode) and now you will see the marching ants around your image. Click the Delete button and the background is gone!

Or you can judiciously use the eraser to erase the background, but I find my method works best for me!

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
