Does anybody know if/when IBM will add support for numeric amounts greater than 18 digits long?

Apparently, the Integrated Language Environment (ILE) COBOL for AS/400 compiler - Version 4 Release 4, lets you code up to PIC 9(31).

Hi,

the same is true for COBOL/390 version 2.2

Hi,

if you want to handle more than 18 digits but your compiler handles only 18, it can still be done by doing more than one compute with for example the receiving field one time with all the digits before the decimal-point and the other with the digits after the decimal-point.

Experiment with your compiler with the extreme values and the computes.

I certainly hope this is helpful :)

Yoseph -

The current COBOL for VSE compiler does not support numeric fields longer than 18 digits (see the VSE online documentation at:
You may get your answer quickly by posting to VSE-L (parallel newsfeed bit.listserv.vse-l) at Alice Crema and other IBM language development folks used to watch that forum on a regular basis.

Good luck!
