I'm trying to clean a drive by right clicking on the drive itself under the device Tab and within 20 seconds, I get the alert:

Source: Backup Exec
Type: Error
Event ID : 34113
Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed
(Server: "EDSDMSWEB01") (Job: "Clean Drive 0002") Clean Drive 0002 -- The job failed with the following error: Physical Volume Library Media not found.

Has anyone seen this before? I am able to export/import, regular backups run fine. Only when I try to clean the drive it generates this message.

1. Do you import the cleaning tape each time, or is the cleaning tape left in the tape library?

2. Did you do an inventory of the slot that the cleaning tape is in?

3. If you right-click on the slot that holds the cleaning tape, is the box "Cleaning Media" checked?

The cleaning media is in the slot directly above the portal, which, in Backup Exec, you can not see the slot. If you can, I just dont know where. Its just not a part of the number sequence (slots 1-27). When the drive does need cleaning, it will automatically pull the cleaning media from the portal I have referred to, but, that is done automatically "Clean Me" is displayed. Am I making sense here? I appreciate your help.

I'm making some guesses here, so correct me if I'm wrong.

1. When you installed Veritas you chose to use the hardware's drivers and not allow Veritas to have control (means you didn't load the Veritas drivers).

2. Cleaning works fine, except when YOU try to do it manually.

Here's what I believe is happening...when the tape device decides it needs cleaning, it knows where the tape is and does a cleaning. When YOU decide to clean it, you are doing it through Veritas which doesn't know where the tape is and therefore cannot use the tape.

If you are allowing the tape device control of the cleaning, you need to manually change the cleaning statistics. Veritas will only reset the cleaning statistics if it has control of the cleaning job. Veritas can't have control if you did not load the Veritas drivers.
