phph misconfigured?

on a newly installed linux(RH 7.3) box:

-unzipped php4.*
-went to directory
-./config
-make
-make install

php still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong????

You compiled PHP from source? What command-line options did you hand the configuration script? ______________________________________________________________________

when compiling apache i used:
> ./configure --enable-module=so
> make
> make install

"Still doesn't work" is waaaaay to broad a complaint to respond to.
