php front-end

can anyone tell me how i can use php to generate an online 'front-end' for my mysql database.
I'm running my own apache server, with php enabled (THAT was a chore!) on Windows XP.

My database works nicely, however im also having (possibly related) problems with passwords.

There is a free php software that is a simple database handler. I have it at work if and can find out the name tomorrow if your interested.

ta, btw how do i find out if i have mail() enabled???
and how do i enable it, ive tried phpinfo() to look for it, and php.ini in the os root dir, but to no avail.
plz respond as this is really making me angry.
