Hi Everyone.

Just a quick question,

I have been building an online store for the last few weeks on a windows system using easyphp (a package containing mysql apache and php).
Now i am at the stage where i am moving the site onto a unix box running fedora. I have apache and mysql installed and running fine but i am having a problem with my php extensions.
When i login to my site i have to communicate with the db and i am getting the following error.

DB Error : extemsion not found

Do you think that the problem is that php is looking in the wrong place for the db extensions?
My pear extensions are all installed in the following dir
/usr/share/pear
and i have the db extension installed here too.

Should my php extensions be installed in /usr/lib/php/modules?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards
Dessie

inlude the pear directory in your php.ini's include_path directive

Hi, thanks, i tried this and the error went away yet now there is nothing being display on the page below you can see the appropriate section of php.ini.
include_path i uncommented and changed the path.
Is this correct or have you any more ides's

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Paths and Directories ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

; UNIX: "/path1:/path2"
include_path = "usr/share/pear"
;
; Windows: "\path1;\path2"
;include_path = ".;c:\php\includes"

; The root of the PHP pages, used only if nonempty.
; if PHP was not compiled with FORCE_REDIRECT, you SHOULD set doc_root
; if you are running php as a CGI under any web server (other than IIS)
; see documentation for security issues. The alternate is to use the
; cgi.force_redirect configuration below
doc_root =

; The directory under which PHP opens the script using /~username used only
; if nonempty.
user_dir =

; Directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside.
extension_dir = "/usr/lib/php/modules"

i guess you are best placed to verify that the path is correct.

if php is not giving you a file not found error when you are calling the pear class then it is finding it ok. so the problem is now more likely to be in your code (which you haven't posted)

Just to be sure: make that a "/usr/share/pear" (ie with a slash added in front).

This is from my db connection script

$db_object = DB::connect($datasource, TRUE);

Any help??

not really. you said in your post that you have a blank page. i inferred from this that you were expecting output. what is the code that you were anticipating would generate this output?

as Laundromat infers "/usr/share/pear" is different from "usr/share/pear". the prefixed slash changes things. however i suspect that this is not the issue as it appears that php is now finding the pear extensions.

Hi again,

I think when i was getting a blank output the php.ini was corrupt im back to the orig error now. "/usr/share/pear" is the path i am using.

run a phpinfo() script and see what it reports for the include_path

Hi again here is what i ran and the output is as follows.

[des@bigdunc ~]$ include_path => /usr/share/pear/ => /usr/share/pear/
-bash: /usr/share/pear/: Is a directory
[des@bigdunc ~]$
[des@bigdunc ~]$
[des@bigdunc ~]$ ls /usr/share/pear
Archive data DB.php HTML Mail Net PEAR PEAR.php test
Console DB doc HTTP.php Mail.php OS pearcmd.php System.php XML
[des@bigdunc ~]$

i was hoping you would run it from a web script as i assume that is what you want the online store to be run from, i guess. if you fire it up from the terminal there is no guarantee that you will be using the same php.ini.

by "Original error" i take it you mean
DB Error : extemsion not found

is php giving you any more data on the error? line numbers etc?

No that is the only error coming up in the browser.
Can you tell me how to run the info script from a browser.
I just did a php -i from a terminal window.

create a file with a php extension. put this code in it:
Code:
<? phpinfo(); ?>
upload it to your server in the same directory that you are getting errors. point your browser at the file.

can you also post the dsn you are using to connect to the database using the DB abstraction layer? occlude the user name and pwd, of course.

Below is the result of the phpinfo script.

right

mysql has not been enabled in your installation of php. if you have access to /etc/php.ini then edit the file there and uncomment the mysql line. you may have to download and install the mysql binaries too. if you don't have access i suspect that you will need to contact your hosting company - it is probably something as simple as not having enabled mysql on your account (in the configuration section you will note that php has been compiled " '--without-mysql' " - bit of a giveaway!)

the include paths appear fine.

as an aside: i prefer the getDebugInfo() call rather than getMessage. particularly when dealing with mysql databases. however it won't help you any more with this issue as the problem is at a higher level - mysql is not present!

Sorry for all the questions but not use to working with php on unix.

i have run the following command on the unix box
and returned the following results

[root@bigdunc online_store_070606]# grep mysql /etc/php.ini
mysql.allow_persistent = On
mysql.max_persistent = -1
mysql.max_links = -1
; Default port number for mysql_connect(). If unset, mysql_connect() will use
; the $MYSQL_TCP_PORT or the mysql-tcp entry in /etc/services or the
mysql.default_port =
mysql.default_socket =
; Default host for mysql_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
mysql.default_host =
; Default user for mysql_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
mysql.default_user =
; Default password for mysql_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
; *Any* user with PHP access can run 'echo get_cfg_var("mysql.default_password")
mysql.default_password =
mysql.connect_timeout = 60
mysql.trace_mode = Off
mysqli.max_links = -1
; Default port number for mysqli_connect(). If unset, mysqli_connect() will use
; the $MYSQL_TCP_PORT or the mysql-tcp entry in /etc/services or the
mysqli.default_port = 3306
mysqli.default_socket =
; Default host for mysql_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
mysqli.default_host =
; Default user for mysql_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
mysqli.default_user =
; Default password for mysqli_connect() (doesn't apply in safe mode).
; *Any* user with PHP access can run 'echo get_cfg_var("mysqli.default_password")
mysqli.default_password =
mysqli.reconnect = Off

I take it this portion of the config file needs to be edited.

no. although i would add 3306 as the mysql port

open up php.ini in an editor. vi or whatever. or copy it to a windows box and open it up in notepad.

look under [dynamic extensions] and uncomment the mysql line. if you cant find it add this:
Code:
extension=php_mysql.dll
in the right section

make sure that your extensions directory directive in php.ini points to the right place on your server

you then need to restart apache as you are using php as a sapi rather than cgi

this will only work if mysql is installed already - have you verified this?

Hi Japadie

Mysql is installed and running,
I added the the line you said and the config file now looks like
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Dynamic Extensions ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
;
; If you wish to have an extension loaded automatically, use the following
; syntax:
;
; extension=modulename.extension
;
; For example:
;
; extension=msql.so
;
; Note that it should be the name of the module only; no directory information
; needs to go here. Specify the location of the extension with the
; extension_dir directive above.
extension=php_mysql.dll

;;;;
; Note: packaged extension modules are now loaded via the .ini files
; found in the directory /etc/php.d; these are loaded by default.
;;;;

I restarted httpd service and still getting the same results.
