PHP and remote Informix-Database error -957

I installed PHP+Apache+Informix+SDK on a Linux maschine.
I can connect to the local database without any problems.
But if i try to connect to a database on a remote system
the following error occurs:

ifx_connect : E [SQLSTATE=IX 000 SQLCODE=-957]

What settings are required on my local and remote maschine
to connect to a remote database ?
