php 5.3 (release candidate 1) was released on 24/3. This looks to be a very significant increment over the 5.2 branch as it supports namespaces, late static binding, a new mysql library (which avoids the old licence issues) and, my personal favourite: a shortcut for the ternary operator (as well as many other interesting enhancements)
