Photosmart printer control language

I have an HP Photosmart 8700 wide paper (13") printer.

It is capable of printing banners with 8 1/2 " paper but is limited/restricted to 24" lengths when printing 13" wide paper.

Are there "escape" codes that can be used with this printer to change the paper settings? I would like to print full width banners.
