I am mainly a web designer and I work with photoshop, but now I'm doing a print project, and am wondering if the quality of the text is going to come out better if I do it in Illustrator as oposed to photoshop.

I am using Photoshop 7. My logic tells me that if I flatten the file to a tiff at 350 dpi the quality should be the same whether I use Photoshop or Illustrator. Am I wrong?

...yes, better to artwork in illustrator or indesign for text if possible, especially body copy...

...text in photoshop does convert to pixels, you can get better results at 600 to 800 dpi flattened photoshop file, but for true sharpness your better of preserving as vector or a font via a dedicated page layout application...

...the only way of preserving vector is if your save out of photoshop as PDF or EPS, be aware though that using 'faux' styles render to pixels and trying to re-open an EPS will require you to raster it...

...also make sure that your anti-aliasing of text in photoshop is set to something other than 'none' if you do end up doing text in photoshop...

...if you need to do fancy effects for text other than body copy, then photoshop will suffice...

vector, vector, VECTOR!!
Try it; you'll like it- c'mon; all the cool kids are doing it!

can you buy Illustrator on its own these days, or is it bundled?
