At the top left of the image in Photoshop there are two grey boxes. One has a number in it and the other has a rectangular shaped icon.

1. what are these for?

2. if you are making a small image say, 25 x 25 these get in the way. Is it possible to get rid of them?

Thanks.

Hi Mancroft

They are slice numbers, they do not print.
To remove them go to preferences-Guides Grids & Slices
uncheck Show Slice Numbers, this should take care of your problem.

Life without challenges can be very boring

The only problem with the thombathe method is that when you do come to use your slice tool then the numbers will not show up (which generally you will want them to otherwise you could accidentally create a extra small slice that you are unaware of) and you will have to go back into preferences to reselect the option.

The other way you could have solved your problem would be to choose the SLICE SELECT TOOL then in the options bar select HIDE AUTO SLICES.
