I don't think I got this message through last time. Here it goes again.
It started when I loaded pics from a flash memory card by using a floppy adapter. Every 5th or so time I change tools, every time I change windows, every few seconds I'm using a tool, Photoshop 6.0 for Windows 98 tries to access my floppy drive, and slows me down. It reads, not writes, even when there's no disk. What is it looking for and how do I make it stop? I already "purged all" in the edit menu, and my preferences are close to default as far as I know.

The first thing that you should do is to copy the files from your flash disk to your hard disk using Windows Explorer. Even Adobe will not offer support for problems encountered while accessing files on removable media. Photoshop accesses the image source file during your work session - this is far less noticable from the hard disk, and the chance of disk errors will be greatly reduced.

If you wish to continue using external media make sure that you have deleted the preferences file in the Photoshop/settings directory.

But the problem may be related to Windows rather than Photoshop. I can't remember if it was Win95 or 98 that required a patch for accessing the floppy drive needlessly. Try the Microsoft site to see if you can download it.

Good Luck

I have exactly the same problem with my photoshop 6.0, i read a disk and now every click or anything i do in photoshop it scans my disk drive, i have tried those thigs you said but no luck, i also uninstalled Photoshop but it still kept the same settings and the problem was still there

if anyone knows how to fix this please reply

Thanks

That sounds like a problem I use to have in photoshop 5.5 and in Windows SE. I would first check to make sure drive A: is not being used for a scratch disk for photoshop. As for windows always checking the A: drive, there is a way to do it but I just cant remember at this moment. Dont have my books in front of me. The solution is in Windows 98 second edition bible.

Hi, had this same problem.

Go to:

Close photoshop if it is running. In explorer goto:

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\6.0\Adobe Photoshop 6 Settings and
delete the file "Adobe Photoshop 6 Prefs.psp"

Restart photoshop, your troubles should be gone!

Good Luck,

Also check to make sure you don't have Microsoft's FAST FIND, installed in the control panel. very annoying! John D. Saucier
