How does one apply a GRADUATED (or a gradually and smoothly transitioning) OPACITY to a PhotoShop 7.0 image/layer? I want the image/layer to start at 100% (or some opacity > 0%) opacity on one side, and continuously/smoothly transition to 0% (or some # other than it started with) opacity on the opposite side.
Basically, I need to apply, say a +30% contrast (and the same for brightness) to one side of an image, and smoothly transition it to, say a +0% contrast on the opposite side of the image - and I thought that this "graduated opacity" approach might be a way to accomplish this.
Thank you.

Hi,

What you will want to do to get that effect is to use a layer mask.

To learn about layer masks check out my faq: FAQ229-1962

Hope this helps!

SPYDERIX,

PERFECT! That did it! Thank you so much. I've been after this piece of information for years.

Sincerely
