Every time I try to start Photoshop Elements, it starts to download a file and then it hangs.

I remember I was able to fix this by getting into the program somehow and then checking preferences to have it not check for upgrades.

How do I start elements without it doing this?

It's very easy to change the preferences. The problem is that I can't get into the program. When I start it, it crashes. I need to get into the program first before I can change the preferences.

Sorry "preferences" was probably not a good example but what I was trying to say is you could try looking for your "elements crashes on startup" problem in the adobe knowledge base.

I spent 45 minutes in the Knowledgebase before I started searching the web for a forum and then joined this one. I typed in a dozen ideas including various versions of what you suggested. Perhaps I am doing something wrong with my searches.

I have always had my best luck in Forums. That's the way I get all my problems solved with my Apple products. Unfortunately, I don't think Adobe has a free forum like Apple does.

I had this problem before, it was a common problem in 2.0, a bug in the program that I got an easy solution on a forum. Unfortunately I have to start all over again now.

I just de-installed and re-installed the program but I still couldn't get in.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem or perhaps the name of some other forums I could look in for help?

Thanks.
