photoshop drag/drop layer

if i drag a photoshop text layer, or any kind of image layer, into illustrator 8 it creates a layer.

if i don't have the font to truly recreate a real text layer, can i keep it and expect it not to degrade if enlarged in the end product?

is everything that is dragged into illustrator change into the vector format and protected in quality output?

Illustrator doesn't change the nature of what is being dragged into it - if it is raster, it will continue to be raster, if it is already vector, it will remain vector.
