I'VE BEEN INSTALLING GREEK FONTS ON MY PC BUT PHOTOSHOP 6,0 DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THEM. ALL MY OTHER DTP PROGRAMS WORK FINE. I DISCOVERED SOME .FON FILES WITH INTERNATIONAL DESCRIPTION (P.I. ENGLISH.FON, FRENCH.FON). WHAT IS A .FON FILE AND WOULD THAT BE THE ANSWER TO MY PROBLEM?

ZetPap:
The simplest approach is this:
Select TrueType Symbol. Select any character by ALT+3digits.
Select alpha, beta, gamma by a,b,c and so on.
You can download a printable code table here:

TrueType Symbol is not the same as Type1 Symbol.
For safety, I have tested the method actually with PhS 5.
Hope this helps. ---Gernot

thx alot but i stil get latin characters no matter what fonts i choose or what code i type. any other ideas?

I guess what I mean is, Are you using a font managment program or are you just dumping the font into your Windows/fonts directory? The Windows fonts folder can only load so many fonts at one time plus every font in there is taking up memory all the time. An application like Suitcase should make it easy to load and unload fonts from anywhere in your system anytime you want.

Zefir: yes, a font is either loaded by the Windows feature
"Add Font" or by ATM for Type 1 fonts. A font cannot be simply COPIED into
the appropriate folder.
On the other hand: TrueType Symbol belongs to the fonts which are automatically
installed by Windows. This should work, and in my environment ist does work.

Sorry: I meant Zetpap and jAQUAN, not Zefir.

so that means that photoshop doesn't recognize true type fonts at all? I should get type 1 greek fonts through my atm manager?
THX ALOT FOR THE HELP GUYS

Zetpap: no, it means that you can use any font which is properly
installed, TrueType in PSFonts or Type 1 in Windows\Fonts.
Window installs automatically plenty TrueType fonts,
e.g. Arial, Verdana, Times, Courier, Symbol ...
A few are not directly accessible in PhS like MS Sans Serif,
these are system fonts for the operating system.
All the others SHOULD be listed in the text tool control box in PhS,
and here it works. Therefore my recommenation for Greeks
by Symbol, if only one font is required.
Sorry, I don´t know what´s wrong in your system. ---Gernot

Oh, just a thought...

Older versions of Photoshop needed to be restarted in order to make recently loaded fonts cause it could only do font scan at startup.

You don't have Illustrator do you? :)

I still highly recomend Suitcase from Extensis
