I have a circular .tiff graphic that has a square grey background around it. I am trying to cut away the grey background using the lasso tool and elliptical marquee tool, but have not found a way to successfully do it. What is the best way to cut a perfect circle out of my graphic. I am posting the graphic in question here:
Thanks for any help that can be offered!

Assuming that it is a perfect circle that you want, do the following:

1. Select the elliptical marquee tool.
2. Hold SHIFT down and drag a circle.
3. Whilst holding SHIFT down hold SPACEBAR down (the crosshair cursor will change to a hand and this will enable you to drag and change the position of the marquee), move the circle over the element in question.
4. Release the SPACEBAR (the hand changes back to crosshair) and continue dragging to adjust the size of the marquee.
5. Continue the process until the marquee is the exact size and in the exact positionthat you require. Release SHIFT.
6. COPY
7. PASTE to new layer
8. delete background layer

easier way.. Magic wand the gray region, then feather it and delete away.

Yes, that is the eaiser way, however, in this particular situation by doing it the way I stated gives a much cleaner result.

Maybe in the case of an object with a higher resoloution the magic wand and a little feather would do the trick.

A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.
