Greetings,

I am attempting to follow this tutorial

It uses an older version of photoshop I believe as Ctrl+Click on layer thumbnail is needed to select the selection.

The instruction I'm having issues is the following:
"Apply this gradient on the bottom half of the shape."

I use Select -> Transform selection to change the marquee selection to the bottom half.

I have created my gradient and applied it to the layer.

Gradient setup:-

Gradient result:-

Which doesnt give the desired result, I expect it to blend using Overlay option as the gradient has transparent elements and has colour only in the center.

However it appears as a solid gradient over the top and not as in the tutorial.

I hope this makes sense as difficult to explain.
Note: Im using reds instead of the greys in the tutorial.

I would be happy to expand further if needed.
How do I complete it as per the tutorial?

Thanks
Rob

...you can't use a "gradient overlay" layer style on steps two and three...

...after the initial base gradient, which is on the rectangle shape "layer style", the other two gradients on top are created on new transparent layers, using the gradient tool (in the tool bar, select it and make your transparent gradient), then simply dragging out an area within the already selected area...

Ahh thank you, that explains so much.

Cheers for the explanation, appreciated.
