I created a new, blank document in CS2 and filled it with pure blue (RGB = 0/0/255). My working space is sRGB, and I made sure the profile was embedded in the image. Then I saved it as a jpeg and opened it in IrfanView.

Here's a comparison of the two images (PS on the left, IrfanView on the right). Can anyone explain why the difference? Thanks.

Does IrfanView utilize color profiles?

If both apps utilize color profiles, do both have the function turned on?

I don't know, but I opened the jpeg in IrfanView, Internet Explorer, and Firefox. All looked identical. I assume that the latter two, the browsers, default to sRGB.

Here's what I don't understand: If these three applications can display pure blue in sRGB, why doesn't PS do it as well?

Browsers do not recognize color profiles and many other apps don't.

Try turning color management off and see if they don't look the same.

Hi, sRGB isn't a good idea for screen view. Photoshop as color profiles for monitors you can choose, with better chance to finally have the color you want. Unhappilly, PC and MAC don't use the same gamma (2.2 vs 1.8). So it will never be perfect everywhere !
