Photoshop 6 is hanging

I have Win 2000, 256 MB Ram and enough HD, Photoshop 6

My Photoshop is always hanging after a while (2-10 Minutes)
The system hangs, so i have to reboot!!

I already installed PS 6 again twice. Once in german and once in english version.

Still same Problem.

I tried to change the memory usage from 10% to 100%...still same problem.

Does anybody expirienced same problem?

Are there any other processes running in background (or foreground) on your machine which might be causing the problem?

there are only the Norton Virus Protection and Firewall in the background.
But no application else is running.

It is really strange. I already installed the patch 6.01...
But still same problem.
