I am having a problem with the color well in Photshop 5. No matter what I try the White portion of the well (foreground or background) comes in yellow. Have tried setting defaults, customizing, removing all references to program, reinstalling with no luck. Removed Photoshop 5 put on Photoshop 4 and all is well. This is on a G4 with OS 9

Any suggestions are appreciated.

When you click on that "swatch" does it say #FFFFFF in the lower right hand corner and the RGB values are 255 255 255

If so then you have complete white, and there just maybe something wrong with your monitor.

Starting with the obvious, is this problem unique to PS5? If all white areas are yellow, even in other programs, then either your monitor is starting to age, or you will need to reset the white point (check the documentation that came with your computer).

If it's only Photoshop, does it affect all files? Are your files set to 'Indexed Color' mode? If they are, you could try converting to RGB and try again.

Of course, the above solutions are probably not applicable here if PS 4 is OK, but you never know! Failing all that, try using the Adobe Gamma utility that came with Photoshop. Also, see if your version of ColorSync is up to date.

To add to Blueark's post, can you send something to a color printer to see what color it interprets?
If it too comes out yellow you can rule out the monitor.

much luck

The big difference between PS4 and PS5 is color profile management. PS5's introduction of this 'feature' took a lot of people by surprise (possibly you as well) and upset others. Check adobe.com to make sure your version of PS5 has all the necessary updates as they released an update to address this color profile issue.

Check the 'color settings' under your Edit menu. This is what makes your white look yellow in PS5. The manual should give elaborate details on what to set. When in doubt, set it to emulate PS4 in this dialog box.

I think 'color settings' is under the File menu in PS 5 (well, 5.0 anyway, maybe it changed in 5.5), but you're right about checking it out.
