Phonemail 6.x Hard Drive Partitions

I have a Siemens phonemail v 6.4 that I use as a test machine. I have used the diskmaster tool to reformat the hard drives in the past, but I always set the partition size to match the one set in the previous configuration. However, when you run diskmaster and choose the option to create a KSAM partition it always asks if you want to set the partition to the maximum size for that drive, and I say no and set the drive (for example) to the 35 hour size (500 MB). So, if I have a 1GB drive, can I set the partition to the maximum size without problems occurring later? If anyone has done this successfully please let me know.
