The phones stopped working a few weeks ago. I can take them to the MDF closest and they will register but in the IDF closest they will not I can make other phone work using the same port on the POE switch. The phones are getting stuck in saying searching for CM. I am not allowed to touch the switch but the network folks see confused. Any ideas I can point them to. I can take the phones to another office and they work fine but they get a new ip address from that router/dhcp server.

Your network guys need to check the setup on both the MDF and IDF switches and go from there. You'll need to supply them with switch location, name if available and port you want to use for the phones. The ports need to be setup on whatever Phone/Telecom VLAN they have setup in the MDF. PoE is one thing, but you also need the port configured for the phone vlan trunking.
Getting a new ip at another location is no big deal as most phones are set to DHCP yes.

Some older Switches only allow a fixed number of POE phones on each switch, ie 20 of 24 ports will work, but the 21st will not. Try unplugging one of the others in that area that is working off the same switch, then try this one again, that "should" prove it out. This is due to the available power in the switch.
If you find this to be true, you should be able to use an external power transformer if you have one.

Other phones work in the same port on the switch. It seems all the phones that do not work are 7912's. I replaced them with 7911's using the same ports so at least they are up and running now.

Sounds like your network people changed the switch from an InLine Power switch to a PoE switch. The older 7912 used the pre-standard Cisco power and the 7911 uses the Standard powering scheme. Is your closet switch a Cisco switch or some other vendor?

Does anyone know if I can print a report or do a database query in CUCM 7.1.2 to see when a telephone was last used? Is this possible in a canned report?
