I am just now learning to use the Meridian PBX.
When I pick up a phone I only get a tac-tac-tac sound.
No dialtone, no busytone, none of the signalling tones are working. Yet the call goes through when I dial the extension number or even an outside call goes through.
But, the voice quality is very bad.
Any ideas what might be wrong or broken?

the model number of the phones is M3904.
I've tried swapping phones already and I still get no signaling tones. I am guessing the problem come from the tone generator circuitry, bjt I am not sure what to look for.
Thx
Tony

Did you try a different port?
If it was a tone and digit problem it would effect all phones not just that one.

Yes.
I tried all ports on the digital card

If this happens on all phones, go into LD 15 under FTR data block and enter "Yes" to prompt EEST.

Sorry, didn't see the part where no signalling tones are working (dial tone, busy tone), that would not change with the EEST entry. But, if this is still happening on the entire system, depending on the model of system, you may have a defective TDS card.

AntBan:

You haven't answered if you tried a different card, and is this happening on all phones or just this one.

Is this an entire campus issue? If not, are there other telesets this issue is happening to? If so, are those telesets all on the same card? If so, have you tried to move this teleset to a different card? What were the results?

Mike

Hey Acewarlock, McGruff753
Sorry I've been working on another project. I should point out that this Meridian is not in a real application environment. It is in a test lab and we use it to test out voicemail interop testing and ISDN QISG interoperability testing.
To answer your question, No I have not tried another card. I don't have another one. I will try to obtain one and try it out. I will keep you posted.

Hey ArchTelecom,
How do I repair or replace the TDS?

Sorry for my very limited knowledge on this PBX.

Do you have any other phones on this system? if so do they hvae dial tone? if the do it's not the TDS

I also have anolog phones and they also have the same sound (tac-tac-tac) and no signalling tones are heard. Even when I dial an access code to call out a trunk the same sound is heard.

Have a look in your FTC table and see if the tones are set correctly. This is in LD 56. This are the UK settings if anyone can give a print of the US settings
I think the main setting is DIAL-XTON- 129

THank you all for your response.
The FTC table was very strange. I loaded and old config I had saved in a flash and now all my tones are back and my phones are working. I will have to re-configure some of my trunks though.
Thx again
Tony
