Hi

In my home i have multiple phone sockets, currently i have one connected to a ADSL modem straight into the back of my PC,

I am thinking of installing a second PC into the home, is it possible to connect another PC with a ADSL modem into that port, what will happen if the second PC trys to connect when the first is connected,

Would it be easier to get a wireless Router and have network cards in both?

Thanks

Hi there.

Yes, you can do that, but it means that only one machine can use the internet at any one time.

As you have mentioned, the (much) better option is to get a wireless ADSL modem/router unit (which will have a built in switch) and use that instead of your current modem.

You can connec the PC next to it via a patch cable, and then connect the other machine wirelessly.

Make sure you get an ADSL modem/router (one unit) - a common mistake is made with ADSL where people purchase a DSL/Cable router and then wonder why the ports are wrong.

You will notice that from the ADSL modem to the phone line, the cable jacks are small (RJ11) - There is no RJ11 port on a Cable/DSL router.

Hope this helps.
