Phone Lock Down

I have been given an odd task, if it is possible.

I have installed some M2616 phones in some new conference rooms. Management has seen associated using these phones instead of the break room phones. The break room phones are locked down to local area calling only. The conference room phones are wide open, except for international.

Management is concerned these phones may be used for non-business outbound long distance calls. Is there a way to lock these phones down, but have some sort of an access code to over ride the lockdown when management uses these phones for conference calls?

If this is possible, please give me the complete step-by-step instructions, as I have not done anything like this before. Thank you.

MC
you can use AUTHorisation codes to do this,, and make the sets Fully Restricted,, then users will need to enter the code and a PIN to make calls and then calls can be tracked with CDR.... i need to check my books for the correct way to set this up..

In addition to Colin's remarks:
Define in LD 57 a unique prefix for CODE AUTH
in
LD 88
TYPE aub
CLAS COS TGAR NCOS
006 TLD 01 06

TYPE aut
CODE 6628 CLAS 006

So dialling your LD 57 AUTH prefix followed by authorisation code 6628 gives a set a temporary NCOS 6 or whatever you configure.

regs,

to add 2 new codes...eg 5555 6666

ld88
req=new
type=aut ( add new auth code)
cust=x
code=5555 (add new code 5555)
sarc=(cr) ( this leaves this prompt at deault (no)
clas=1 (to allocate code to CLAS 001)
code=6666 (repeart proceedure to add code 6666)
sarc (cr)
clas=1
code (cr)
req=end

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm stuck on the AUB part.

use AUT instead

Hmm. Okay, I was going by Utreg's post above. I am still stuck.

I did. Although maybe the password I used may not be high enough of security?

Here are my course notes they may help you

Authorisation Codes

This feature gives the user the ability to take their 'personal telephone restrictions ' (or allowances) to any telephone on their system. This would be used to allow a higher level of access from an extension that is normally barred.

To use the feature; A flexible feature code must be dialled (normally *21 as default), the user then dials their 'personal Authorisation code', dial tone is returned and the user can use the telephone as normal. The access level is limited to that of the NCOS, TGAR and CLS programmed against the personal code.

Implementation is in two parts.

· Defining the level of access - Type AUB
· Defining the 'personal code' - Type AUT

LD 88

REQ NEW

CUST XX Customer number
ALEN 4 Length of Authorisation code 1 - 14 digits
ACDR YES/NO Activate CDR for Authorisation codes

BRST 0-(10) Number of initial bursts of tone to be given
CLAS 0 - 15 Program CLAS Number
COS aaa Class of service for this CLAS
TGAR XX Trunk Group Access Restriction for this CLASS
NCOS XX Network Class of Service for this CLASS
CLAS <CR> Next CLAS you may wish to set up <cr> = carriage return
AUTO YES/NO Automatically Generate Authorisation codes

CODE 4567 CLAS 001

When a user dials their Authorisation code the meridian looks up the "CLAS" allocated in the AUT Block to this number and then checks the COS (or CLS of TLD, UNR, FRE etc), the TGAR & NCOS allocated on the AUB Block. It then assigns this level of service for the duration of the call.

Mc Gruff,

There are several restriction levels that you can place on these phones. The best wayto control the call is through the use of authorization codes. Another quick and easy way is to CLS:FRE the conference phones which allows in-house calls but not outgoing external. If you have an operator or receptionist, the user simply dials 0 and have the receptionist make the calls for them, that is, if the call is authorized. The receptionist then logs the call. Of course, this may put a burden on the receptionist. This method is used in places that have multiple receptionists. Keep in mind that the use of an authorization code temporarily overides another phones restrictions. If the authorization code of a user is restricted from international calls, then the call cannot be made with that users authorization code.

Mc Gruff,

I forgot to mention earlier, you can also use the CCS feature (controlled class of service) to restrict any telephone in the building from calling just about anywhere. This feature is used in hotels where the front desk restricts, up to two levels, the room phones to keep cleaning crews and questionable guests from making calls. This is assigned in LD 15. See CCS on your features guide book.
