I'm having an issue I've never had before. I was asked to setup a user with a caller ID phone which means I have to switch them from an analog line to a digital.

When hooked up to an analog line, their phone works great. When I change it over to a digital, I get no display and no dial tone. I gave them a digital phone and I know the TN I picked works because I hooked it up to another desk and had a display and dial tone. I also know that I am punching them down to their correct desk location because every time I put the analog line back, it works.

Any suggestions?

Very possible the TN is disabled or polarity is reversed

I know the TN isn't disabled because I hooked it up to another desk and it worked fine. I then immediately hooked it up to this other desk and it didn't work.

Also, what do you mean by polarity is reversed?

You guys are never going to believe this, but I thought about this last night and the one thing I didn't change out was the cord that goes from the wall to the phone. I changed that this morning and the phone lite up right away. I just don't understand why that cord worked when it was digital, but didn't when it was analog. Oh well, I'm so happy it works. Thanks for the suggestions!

in the UK analogue works on pins 5 & 2 while digital is connected to 3 & 4, you must have a similar/ equivalent setup world wide....

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

Correction: It did work when it was analog, but didn't work when it was digital with the first phone cord.

Analog sets are not polarity sensitive as are digital. So the center 2 pins on the jack or in your case the cord from the wall to the set wasn't correctly wired. That's why it didn't work. A standard North American 4 conductor line cord actually has the 2 center pins reversed if you look at it.
