I am looking for some device that would plug into a 4400 or 5400 series digital phone that would indicate to passers by that the user is on the phone. A light/lamp of some sort.

They have something for Headsets, i know GN netcom (Jabra) have them, so it flashes when someone (caller or user) is talking.

I think this came up before. You could mount an alarm contact to the cradle and magnet to the handset - use it to operate a small light.

Sellotape a big stick with a flag to the handpiece. When you can see the flag above the user's head, they are on the phone.

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I really do nto understadn why it is so hard to see that someone has the handset against there ear.
The light with a headset sounds normal to me.
you cannot see when they are calling but with a handset it should be very simple to see.

tlpeter I had the problem already that one of our ladies here has the receiver under her hair and I couldn't see the receiver but if they don't respond or move the head and suddenly their hand is under the hair as well it gets clear that they are listening on the phone (if they talk you would know faster though)
This is a problem that comes up every once in a while and I wish there would be a solution, one that is also affordable because I have a few customers that would be interrested.

I agree its a problem, especially when you have a lot of headset users who may or may not be in a call. All the phones have message lamps that are lit for messages and flash for alerting calls. It would be lovely to have a slow flash to indicate currently connected call.

But this is not a new need, it and the constant request for more ring tone choice and control on Avaya phones, seem to go into the low low lowest priority pot.

So you really are stuck with hoping for some third device that could be used inline or drastic misuse of an agent status wallboard.

The newer phones have a led that burns while on a call!
It is next to the first button on the phone itself :)

But like Bas mentioned, there are little led light that are connected between the headset and the phone.
I think you can even put them between the handset and the phone.
It is activated when you there is a sound.

I don't read Danish. Photo of pretty young woman and strange cylinder device with pulsating end! Is this safe for work?

It is :). It won't explode!

What you could explain to the users is when someone has a handset to his left or right site of their heads then that person is on a call. When both ears are free the person is also free and will be able to talk to you.
