Hi All,

A first post really, I'm being trained as a telephony technician and need a hand with the tools that are needed for the job, in particular I'm looking for the current equivilent of an engineers field telephone, something that can give me information regarding the line Im connected to. We used to have a guy who could connect to the line and the device would give the CLI of the line.

Im starting a C&G 3667 in copper and fibre next week and am booked into a Panasonic certified installers course.

Can anyone help with a list of tools that you use and a location for purchasing these. UK locations preferable.

Thanks

If you are not concerned with used, I would go to Ebay. I have gotten plenty of tools on there. I would recommend the following and if anyone else wants to add please do........

Test set with caller ID (display)
Tone generator and probe
Basic 4 pair continuity tester
RJ11 and RJ45 combo crimp tool
Basic hand tools to include:
Multi bit screwdriver
Cutters
Needle nose pliers
Punch down tool with combo blade (66 and 110 architecture)
Telco scissors
Tool bag big enough for tools and expansion

Others please add to this. Thanks.

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!

Thanks JRgood

I have the following so far, work are paying for all the tools and training to bring all telephony in house, over the next three years.

Test set with caller ID (display) - Purchased today Tone generator and probe - Have one
Basic 4 pair continuity tester - Have one
RJ11 and RJ45 combo crimp tool - Have one
Basic hand tools to include:
Multi bit screwdriver - Already purchased
Cutters - Already purchased
Needle nose pliers - Have some long nose, need to get some needle nose.
Punch down tool with combo blade (66 and 110 architecture) - Already purchased.
Telco scissors - Cable stripping tool purchased
Tool bag big enough for tools and expansion - Ordered.

I come from a call logging/remote maintenance background supporting Mitel Switches and this is my first look into maintaining and installing the Panasonic systems. Jeez its hard to get any kind of information from Panansonic, we had to go to a certified dealer to get me access to the training as Panasonic would not deal with me directly. I'm looking forward to this greatly....

Thanks for the help. I very much doubt it will be the last time ;)

Cool. Love the test set. Agilent makes great stuff. If you ever get to the point where you need an ISDN/T1 tester they have them. Other types, too. I have learned what I can and can't order on Ebay. I must say I have been lucky so far. Thanks.

Always look out for the next guy because it may be you!
