Preface: My group has little exposure to the Nortel BCM platform (Most of our systems are M1 or Avaya) and in the 3 years I have been here this is the first time I have even had to look at a phone on it.

The problem:
I have received a request from one of our remote sites on a BCM system to set up one of the existing phones in their office to allow dialing out. I am not sure even where to start; Can anyone provide a quick reference to what is needed? As long as I know what I am looking for and what needs to be changed I should be able to figure it out from there.

System: BCM Release 3.7, Build 2.4f

Thanks

Dale

Hello Dale

As you haven't had that much exposure to BCM's, there are two ways to do this. The proper method is to browse to the BCM via it's LAN1 or LAN2 IP Address and log into it. I hope that you know the login details?.

You might need to have a different version of Java loaded in. Once logged in, navigate to where the telephony section is and click on a number of tabs to open up more sections to where the DN' data is shown.

From there, look for the restriction data. It's best to compare it with an extension that can dial out OK and use the same value to change out your set.

Another way, stems from the old Norstar days and you could use the Telset method and make the change by using a M7316 or M7324 type digital phone using "Feature**" etc. I'd probably use this method as you only want to do a basic change, although some engineers would prefer to use IP to log in.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Thanks for the quick response.... I was able to get the phone dialing out so they responded back with.... "We can dial out now but you can't dial her directly using (NPA)NXX-2409!" Uhgg! They're DIDs are 14xx and the phone was set as an internal only ext.. I finally figured out how to change the DN of the phone and now everything is working the way they want it. Hopefully it will be another 3 years before they need another phone change :)

I have no problems with MACs, I do them all day long. I was just making comment on my lack of familiarity with one of our 20+ systems. I am just more comfortable on large systems.
