Phone Cables as Network Cables

Can one use phone cables as network cables? (whenever a regular cable is needed and not a crossover cable).

No, not if it is the older phone cable, 2pair 26ga. But you might check the cable, some phone installation companies are using cat5 cable.

If badly needed tut systems can use phone cable as 10 meg network cable with about $600 of electronics at each end

As an alternative you could use power cable tranmission for about $60 at each end.
