I have been reading the posts about replacing the lamps butr cannot figire out how to get the side cover off to see if the lamps are indeed out. Please tell me where the screw are to take off the right side cover. Also the screws in there look like they are specialized, what kind of screw driver does it take to take them out? Please help.

These are not standard phillips screws, they are actually Torx and you will need a Torx 20 and Torx 15 for the repair.

There are two T-20 located on the top corner as you open up the maint tray door. There are also two T-20 on the top rear corners of the printer (Two T-20 for each side panel, one front, one rear.) Then you need to open the top cover, and from that you gently pull the side covers off.

Take off the Maint Tray Door, by slipping a small paperclip or something like that in the hole on the left hinge, and slide it out a bit, and off the right hinge. Be causeful not to break the hinge clip.

Once done, there are two T-15's that hold on the Silver plate. Remove these, and the plate. Now, remove the T-15 that holds on the Left Maint Tray guide. Lift the front of the rail slightly and slide it back and out. Now, on the Right side of the printer is a gear that is covered by a metal plate. Rotate this gear so the printhead moves to the left side of the printer. Repeat the process for the right side maint guide.

You will notice that there is a unit in the printer that has a cable going to the left frame and connects. Disconnect the cable, and locate the clutch that is also on the left side of the printer, at the same level as this cable and remove the clip, Gear and belt. There is also another clip inside the printer under the assy, on the same shaft. Remove it as well. On the right side, there is a single T-15 that holds this in place. Remove the T-15, and slide the assy to the left and out of the printer. Notice the copper colored alignment bushing. on each end of the shaft. You will need to get these back in correctly during reassembly.

Now, on the right side of the printer, below the fan, is a rectangular hole with a cable going to it. On the connector is a squeeze tab. Squeeze it and pull the cable out. Inside the printer are two T-20's that hold the Heater assy in, the unit you just connected the cable from. Remove the t-20's and slide the heater out. This is where you're bulbs are located.

Now, the bulbs are stanard 118mm 150W Halogen tubes. In most cases, the bulbs go bad, but sometimes the contacts for the bulbs corrode.
