I just had the drum replaced under the extended warranty (glad I got it!). The prints were showing a blank line vertically through the page- almost no ink within the line (about 1/8" wide).
Xerox replaced that and the maintenance kit. When we looked at the drum, there was a nick in the metal. That, we think, also affected the blade on the maint. kit. since the line was still a little evident, and disappeared when the new kit was used (and looked to in up pretty well).
The service guy thought it could have been a staple that fell in somehow (no, I never put staples through!). He said that nothing really comes in contact with the drum other than the maint. kit.
The size of the nick was small- the staple made sense, as if the tip of a staple got caught and pushed a small hole and created a little ridge. It definitely did not look like a slice or a cut.
I only use paper and envelopes- no envelopes with clasps or ties- only gummed envelopes. I don't use any handmade papers that might have chunks of bark.
So any thoughts on what could have caused such a nick in the drum?
Nick (name, not the damage)
