Hello all,

Just recently I began receiving an error when I start up my Phaser 850N printer. The red "X" light begins blinking and shows an error message on the LCD screen saying I need to replace the media/paper tray. However when I get this error, the media tray is fully inserted, I can remove and
reinsert the tray which does not cause the error message to go away. Prior to this error appearing out of no where, the Phaser 850N printer had been working spectacularly.

Does anyone have any idea what may be happening? Is there a sensor somewhere that has went bad? Yes the media tray does have about 75 sheets of 24lb Xerox paper in it.

You're in luck. It's not a bad sensor, but a broken piece on the tray. Not to worry. On the right side of the tray, you will see 3 open squares. The bottom one being a movable one that is the transperancy/paper switch. The top two are in regards to paper size. There is a small plug that broke out of the tray and fell out.

One of these top two holes needs to be blocked. The part number for the 214-4595-02 for the media plug. Some people will get a small piece of hard plastic, or a piece of a credit card that they no longer need, to the size of the hole, and then tape it in place.

Thanks! After reading your post, I did some searching around the side of the printer on the desk and on the floor. I found that the plastic tab had indeed broken loose and fallen to the desk. I got some scotch tape, and it's working good as new now. Thanks very much!

Oh, I forgot to mention, if you are using Letter size paper, you want the plug in the top hole. If you are using A4, you put the plug in the middle hole.

Thanks for all of that information. Do you know where I can go to get those tabs? Xerox's site shows them for sale for $1.00, however there is no way to buy it directly from Xerox online.
