After reading the postings, I think I already know the answer, but before I start slapping myself because the price of the printer was, "To good to be true!", I thought I'd ask the experts.

My problem is that I'm not getting any print at all. If I print a page of text, I may get a stray word or part of a word. Printing solid pages of CYMB produce some light lines. Usually the 1st page prints the most, subsequent pages very little or blank. Black, for instance, didn't print at all while the 1st page of yellow had one faint yellow stripe.

I've run the cleaning cycle many times with no improvement. I've done the power off routine many times as well. I checked the ink and it is Tektronix ink. Of course, that doesn't mean that the prior owner didn't try off-brand ink.

Am I right in suspecting a bad print head?

Thanks much!

I should also add that there are no error messages or fault codes.

I just discovered one additional item that may explain everything! I think that whatever triggers the melter which supplies ink to the printhead ink trays is not heating up. Is there a fuse on the circuit board that could possibly be blown?

The reason I suspect this is because I placed new inkstix in the front of the loading slots, and none of them show any melting whatsoever. I believe that the print that I've seen has been the result of residual ink in the individual ink trays feeding the printhead.

Has anyone run into this before? Can I replace a fuse, or is the circuit board, or something else shot?

It may not be a printhead. If you are getting no ink at all on the page then the possibility is that the cap/wipe/purge assy has a bad gasket or has failed in another way. If Tek ink has been used before and this isnt a 3rd party ink caused failure then I suspect the c/w/p assy. If it does not function as it should then you will see little to no ink in the waste tray after a cleaning cycle, that being the case then the ink is not purged from the head hence the printhead does not show ink levels low to call for the ink loader to melt ink to replace what was used. I have seen just such a scenerio a few times. The c/w/p assy is the one that raises up during the cleaning cycle and seats itself to the face of the printhead. You can visually check to see if the gasket and wiper blade are in place. If this is working then the posibility is a printhead failure. There is no fuse on either board that you can replace to resolve this.

Thanks much for the advice.

I know that the c/w/p assembly moves into place against the ink loader since I have the side panels off and can actually observe that it's moving.

I will inspect it to see if I can see any defects. The ink pots on the printhead are all empty, but they do get hot, so it sounds like the c/w/p assembly is the culprit.

Have you ever tried putting ink directly into the ink pots, bypassing the ink loader? If it would work, this would certainly help to confirm that the printhead is okay.

I ran into this problem with my phaser 350 and when i first got it (i got if off ebay for $10 plus shipping) it worked great but then i ran into erros and once i corrected them all (mostly little plugs that weren't in all the way) i got really bad prints. Alot of jets were clogged up and the cleaning cycle did nothing to get them open. Frustrated I looked over the forum to see if anyone had found a solution. i tried the full color pages of CMYB but to no avail. The first pages were the ones to have the most lines and the rest eventually ran blank. It turned out that the little cleaning assembly was not making a good seal with the printhead because the rubber seal had come off. So now i'm looking for a good wiper assembly.

Hope this help you narrow down your problem.
