Phaser 850 - properties problem

I currently have a problem with a Tektronix 850N on 2 PCs. If they try to open the printers properties box after selecting file \ print, an error message is displayed as follows: "Function address 0x77f821e1 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005). Some or all property pages may not be displayed."

This is causing a problem because they frequently need to change the properties depending on the document they are printing. It appears to work fine when logged in as administrator.

Both users are currently running Windows 2000 SP2 on PIII PCs. Office 2000 SP1, Paintshop Pro 7, Adobe 5.05, Photoshop 6 (the error occurs no matter what program you are trying to print from). They are both setup as standard users and have no additional restrictions on there profile or computer. Other users on there own PC can view the properties page on the printer without the error message appearing.
It was working recently until the old print server (running NT4 server) went down and we replaced it with a new print server running Win2k Server. We have approx 40 other printers running fine for all users including 2 other Tektronix printers.

I have tried reinstalling the latest drivers onto the server as well as the previous version of the drivers which had no effect. Also tried re-installing SP2 for Windows.

I hope some one can help.
 
Have you tried adding them to the Printer Administrators group?
 
Install the Microsoft driver from our website and in the drivers area look for the 2000 MS driver. It is called win2kms.exe

This will solve the issue, as 2000 has a conflict with the dll files that run the graphic user interface for the driver. The MS driver has the same functionality, just no graphic interface.

Enjoy the fix, or try going to the horses mouth first.

The problem will occur when the end user is logged into a Windows 2000 PC
with an account that only has user rights and no administrative rights.
There is a conflict caused by dll files used in the driver's interface. The
affected tabs are the Tektronix Features and Troubleshooting tabs. These
tabs are found under Advanced or Printing Preferences (See Fig. 3).

The best way to rectify this is to go to our website (where you sent your
mail from) and grab the latest Microsoft driver (you will be running a
graphic Adobe driver, the dll files for the graphics are what are
conflicting).

The file you require is win2kms.exe at Please go to the drivers link. The driver interface will change, but all
features etc will remain. I have posted this on

I've got the same problem as stated in this thread, but the client systems are WinXP clients, and the print server is Windows 2000. I installed the win2kms.exe version of the driver, and I don't have a problem with a W2k client, but a WinXP client still gets the 0xc0000005 error. Exact error on WinXP is:

Function address 0x77f7e22a caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc0000005) Some or all Property page(s) may not be displayed.

Any solution?
