I have a question about the paper tray on my Phaser 850.

In the right side of the tray (where the paper/transparency switch is) there are three square holes. The bottom one is clearly used to alert the printer as to what type of media is in the tray. But what are the other two for?

I have to put tape over the top hole or my printer will not acknowledge that the tray is in the printer and so it won't print. Am I missing a part that is supposed to cover this hole? If not, why do I need to cover the hole with tape before I can print?

What is the purpose of the middle hole? This one is also open on my printer and does not have any aparatus with which to close it.

Thanks in advance.

All three holes tell the printer what type of media is being used. With only the top hole plugged it tells the printer plain letter size paper, top and lower signals transparency, top and middle indicate a-4 size. The slide switch on for the bottom hole is there so that you can use the same tray for letter paper and transparency with the same tray. You are missing a tray plug that is whay with it missing it thinks there is no tray installed. These plugs trip switches on the side of the printer.
