Any suggestions as to how to prevent my 850 from periodically (every 3-4 weeks) forgetting its AppleTalk connection? I have a Mac OS/9 user that cannot still uses AppleTalk and she can;t see the printer. The only fix is a reset of the printer.

I have the same problem.
It seems to be avoidable if the Phaser is not in standby mode when the Mac is booted/rebooted, which works for me, because our Macs are in the same room as the Phaser, but might be inconvienient otherwise.

If the phaser is "sleeping", I usually just open the printer to check the ink & paper levels, which causes it to come out of standby & start warming up. (Followed by booting/rebooting the Mac)

My experience with AppleTalk disappearing is a little different - it has no apparent correlation to the state of the printer when I reboot the Mac. The only fix for me is a reset/restart if the printer.

By the way - pushing the select button on the front panel will start the power up cycle. I never did understand why opening the paper trays or checking the ink would initiate a power-up cycle ... sometimes I am just removing special paper from a job that finished earlier or putting ink in for a job I want to run later. The only time the printer should power up is when you request it, when a job is queued, or if you have the timer set, when the timer goes off. IMHO
