Book says to use diagnostics sensor tests to locate blocked sensor. How is that done? Can't get past the error code that is displayed. Also main cooling fan is running but nothing else ever even tries. Help!

This error means there is a possible media obstruction in the preheater unit.

If you are good with taking things apart, you can open the front cover and exit cover to remove the maintence Draw "a".

Frim their you will need to locate the preheater entrance slot. Center a sheet of regular copy paper and not paper with holdes in it against the rollers in the slot located at the bottom of the silver metal guide plate.

Slowly advance the paper by rotating the feed rollers directly underneath the paper (pulling the bottom of the roller toward the you) but dont advance the paper all the way through so you don't damage any sensors.

This will see if there is anything debris to be removed. after you done this grasp both bottom corners of the paper, slowly pull it back through the front of the printer to remove it without tearing. Repeat this process of feeding paper in and pulling it out several times to ensure that all paper scraps have been removed.

If there is an obstruction and this doesnt work, you might want to try a heavier card stock. but don't use cardboard or anything over 110lb paper.

If none of this works let me know, I have one more procedure you can do.

Tried all of the above-no change. How do you use the diagnostics sensors test?

The only way to test the sensors via diags is to use a pc based diags program for the 850 on a PC connected with a diags cable. My guess is that you have a bad or stuck preheat exit sensor. To access the sensor you need to remove the drum / paper preheater assy and look up inside the printer on the upper left side near the black transfix roller. The sensor is in a bracket which is mounted to the frame, it sometimes will become dislodged from the bracket or the flag is stuck up or held up by a scrap of paper. Freeing it up and reseating should take care of the problem.
