Phaser 8400 Maintenance Kit will not go down all the way

Hi everyone! Kinda stumble on this forum looking for answers for my xerox phaser 8400...loved reading it so much I had to join.

The problem I am having is that the maintenance kit will not go down all the way so it is constantly rubbing on the drum...so whatever I print only comes out with the half the image. What was suppose to be on the right side of the drum comes out extremely smeared/missing.

I can open the little trap door and see that the M.K is not going down all the way and if I gently hold it...page comes out fine. I read in the forum about the pivot plate somestimes cracking but I have checked mine and it is black in color and does not appear to have any cracks that I can see.

My warranty is out and I can't afford a xerox tech...even though I offered my first born in lue of payment (Just kidding)

Any suggestions?

More than likely one of the cams have moved on the shaft. The cams are what push the pivot plate up to the drum. Xerox has had problems with the cams moving. That would be the first place I would look.
