Phaser 8200 problems

Hi,

I'm having some problems with this printer. About a week ago, the light on the front started flashing orange, and the message read "replace maintenance kit in 30 days".

I checked the kit life in the menu and it's at 40%. I try resetting the printer, now it get's stuck at the screen with Xerox logo.

If I browse the web server the status indicates 'Postscript initializing'. The only way I can get it working is to swtich it off for over half hour, then I get that same message about the maintenance kit.

In addition it occasionally decides to reset itself leading to the same procedure described above.

Is there anything I can do besides call a technician?

You are getting the message because the date has exceeded the life date on the maint kit. These kit have a date coded into the rom that is good for about 15 months, this is what they expect the shelf life of the oil in the roller to be. As long as there is % life remaining then the printer will continue to print but will display the message you see. This should not cause any problems unless of cousre the oil does dry up, though I have yet to see that happen. If this happens then you will see ink pulled off teh page and sticking to the drum and probably hear a tearing noise as paper exits. So you can continue printing and ignore the message and replace it when it does expire at which point teh front panel will indicate that with a red led, or replace the maint kit or if you want to get rid of teh message you can use the printer's webpage and change the printer date to reflect some time prior to 15 months ago.
