The photo attached is of a part that fell into the space below the paper tray of an 8200. Have looked through the service manual but cannot find this (flag1 of the Fig 8-8 is the closest but it is not that) The printer now feeds paper to the Upper feeed assembly and stops. Have replaced the circuit boards with the 'flags' recently so those are not broken. Any help gratefully received.

The part you show is part of the right side guide. The Cap/wipe/purge comes down and hits this lever releaseing the maintenance tray.

Thanks for the reply. Looks as if this is nothing to do with the feed problem then so back to square one (unless this is sensed in some way to inhibit feed?)

You may have a sticky solonoid on the upper/right/front.
Remove the plate to access and put tape on the flapper.
One of the flags in the pre-feed assy. is long, and could have slipped off on the left side.

Have released the solenoid but the paper still stops after being taken about 1cm into the upper feed unit. The flag board is new and I have checked the long flag and it seems fine.

Is it possible the maintenance tray is blocking the paper feed path? with the right side guide broken and the part that holds the tray in missing, could the tray be sliding back into the paper path? Also how do the white milar strips look on the door?

The tray is fine, in fact I can get it to feed from the manual feeder OK. The Mylar strips are fine also, the paper gets past these and into the upper feed unit where it moves in about 1cm and stops.
