I just replaced the preheater bulbs, then broke the flag sensor causing the paper jam and fixed that, now I have the machine back together and it warmed up and printed a test sheet fine and all of a sudden. I'm getting a maintenance kit is old and needs replacement. It was old so I replaced it with a new one that I had purchased along time ago, but now i get the error "maintenance kit is empty" after I have replaced it. What could cause this and how do i fix it? I have restarted the computer and have taken the kit out and put it back in several times.

thanks

The crum is the the counter, small square piece that sits in the slot of the maintenance drawer, that comes with the new maintenance roller, they need to be replaced together. Also these crums are dated stamped so if the kit was new and unopened yet purchased over a year ago there is a chance the date has expired. This is done because the oil can dry up in the roller, though it last longer than the date stamp. If your front panel displays a message the the maintenace kit has expired but still allows you to print or you can access the % remaining and still shows a percentage remaining then the message is due to the date stamp and should allow you to print, just keep an eye on print quality or for ink sticking to the drum which would indicate the maintenance roller is not applying oil to the drum due to possibly being dried up. Otherwise it may just be simple as the crum wasnt replaced with the roller. Hope this helps.

I'm revisiting this thread as I have had another problem with the maintenance kit. I had someone tell me to reset the date on the computer to get an old maintenance kit to work. I was told that before I realized that it might cause some issues. Now I have removed that old kit and purchased one from xerox about a week ago and put it into the machine while I was replacing the upper feed roller assembly but had not used this kit at all or recorrected the date on the computer.

When I fixed the machine and restarted it for the first time I'm being told that the maintenance kit has expired, but this is a brand new kit. What should I do?

thanks
